(The Second Annual) Apple Crisp Thursday

Hey. It's been a while. Did you miss us? If you live in the Midwest, you may have noticed certain changes. It stops raining every few days. The air is cooler. Crisper. Sweaters are being worn. That's right. It's FALL!

Much like Winter, Fall brings its own flavors, namely pumpkin and apple. It is in this tradition that I invite you, our loyal readership, to witness the birth of a ritual: Apple Crisp Thursday. It's simple really. The first Thursday after you realize it is Fall, you gather your friends and make apple crisp.

It's a great deal of fun, but you don't have to take my word for it! Take a look at these kids!

Alex loves to bake!

Ashley was chopping up 4 cups of apples for us. HONEYCRISP apples. Delish. But then, she remembered, "NOOOOOOOOO! My POOOTTIONNNNNNN!" And ran away.

Don't worry! She got to Pottermore in time. Go Ashley! Earn those points! Also she came back and finished the apples. Multitasking bonus.

Next I made a 3/4 c brown-sugar snowman with 1/2 c dustings of oats and flour. Alex melted 1/3 c of butter. Because everybody helps on Apple Crisp Thursday.

We spiced it with 3/4 tsps of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. Then Critz mixed it all up and covered the apples.

If you're following along at home, pop it in the oven at 375F and go do something else for 30 min.

We sat on the couch and discussed how young people are being hosed. HOSED. And Jenn had a potato. So I guess things could be worse.

Also Shelly brought fresh chestnuts! We roasted them in the microwave. I forgot to take a picture of that, but here's photo proof that Shelly was there.

DING!

Let us return to the joyful world of apples and crumbleyum.

Success!

We decided that we shouldn't wait until next year to do this again, so stay tuned for Pumpkin Roll Tuesday!

How To Be a Fatty: Lesson 2

Hey. So it's been a while guys. We got caught up in.... well... life.

But now we're back! With more sweets than ever!

Today, we made yet another ice cream cake with a homemade oreo crust and beach themed teddy graham cupcakes.

We're tired. So this is going to be more of a visual update, than a text update.

"How cool would it be if you had a zit and when you popped it frosting came out?!" -[name redacted]

Step 1: Put cake in cups. This is key for cupcakes.
Step 2: De-goo and crush Oreos for pie crust.

Step 3: Squish oreos into pan. Swear. Make more squish.

Step 4: Frost! Teddy grahams get cute outfits. Or, eaten by oreo-goo sharks. Or the sun.

Elephants love cupcakes.

Happy Friday everyone!

Anne, Ashley, Shellhowe, and Critz.

[And then Critz sounded like God.]

How to be a Fatty: Lesson 1

So... remember that cake we were going on about last time? Here it is! It's a candy-ice cream cakepie. Join us and embrace your inner fatty.

Pre-fatty prep:
Ingredients:
8-9 honey graham crackers (or you could use oreos. You want about a cup and a half crushed of either)
1/2 stick butter
1.5 quarts of ice cream
1 container of magic shell ice cream topping (we used chocolate fudge)
crushed candy bits. however much your little (or maybe not so little) inner fatty wants

Step 1: Pick your favorite ice cream and candy

We chose Cookie Dough ice cream (a favorite of Team Cookie) and Reese's Peanut Butter cups.

Step 2: Crush 8-9 graham crackers in a storage or freezer bag. You can use a rolling pin to crush them, or do what Ashley did, and just beat the hell out of it to express your repressed emotions...

Step 3: We combined the butter and graham cracker and smushed it into a 9 inch springform pan, then topped it with some magic-shell ice cream topping. You might want to try skipping the butter and just combining magic-shell with graham crackers... we don't know. Let us know what works for you.

Step 4: Put ice cream on top. Make sure it's not frozen solid. Try leaving it in the fridge for like 30-60 minutes first. Make it flaaaaaat. Then put it in the freezer for a couple hours... and wait!! wait for it..........

Step 5: Still waiting??? Kk, while you're waiting, chop up some Reese's cups. If that was the candy of your choice. If it was something like butterfingers... smush it in the bag like you did the graham crackers. If it's M&Ms... leave them the hell alone and keep waiting. Be bored. Read a book. We'll recommend some later.

Step 6: DONE WAITING! Coat the cake with more magic shell... or maybe some cool whip. Whatever your inner fatty wants. And then put the candy on top. Like so:
Step 7: Spring your cake/pie from the pan, carefully... You might want to run a knife around the edge first. We did. And we're pretty smart. Not to brag or anything.
And here's the finished (and delicious) product

Yay!

Enjoy!
